Swimsuit Designer/The Latest

MSN News and Reports about the murder of the swimsuit fashion designer:

http://lifestyle.msn.com/your-look/video/default.aspx?vid=7e38a61e-6758-41e3-93cf-95780a5c73f3%26tab=Fashion%26ap=true&from=gallerywidget_en-us_lifestyle_yourlook

The murder of anyone in the fashion design industry is considered reprehensible to the public and to those within the industry, but to let the news fade away without thought is to actually dismiss and in a way participate in the demise of the person.
Although that would be considered illogical to some, one does have to understand an individual in whatever shape or form is deemed an individual, whether that person was well - liked or considered as an outcast.

I think that whatever the underlying problem was in this woman's demise, she was a role model for people in that line of work and in the industry at large. She was taken away from the people by an individual or people who do not applaud success when they see it.

I condemn this murder of this woman and other people who have a novel way of contributing to the culture at large. Although she may not have graced the countless catwalks in high - end (non - accessories) markets all over the world, she was a fast rising star, and had potential in this particular market, where accessories or practical products are of necessity.

Women are drawn by accessories, and there is a definite market for them, and swimsuits are highly popular, because they satisfy the public need for decency in the public places of life. We have one less person who meets this need that people have, and I am sorry to say, but the loss will be felt in a larger way.

Women are sometimes seen in negative lights, and this may have contributed to her demise, and they are publicly degraded as sex toys for predators and the public at large. We need to express a moral outrage against the murder of women in general. If we do not write, speak, or explicate this, more women can be endangered in the future.

Take time out today to articulate to your friends in the industry or in the consumer world that needless tragedies can be averted if enough people care. We can stop this bestiality, or prevent this by watching out for women and our friends in the public sphere.

Happy Holidays to all of you!

September Vogue

September Issues

This month, I am paging through "Elle" and "Vogue." Both magazines are replete with fashion from start to finish, fashion that speaks to the tastes of a great many people. As I flipped past pages, I thought of random people I had met over the years who commented on my "good taste." I also saw the great amount of thought and work it takes to compile such books.

These thoughts crossed my mind as flashbacks, and the strangers I met were all either recent acquaintances or within isolated meetings. I recollect that they chose various items to comment on whether they were an accessory or a dress I had on. I didn't know at first what would make people wonder about these particular items.

At first, I thought they were all random coincidences, and I gave them no thought.

Then one day when someone stooped to observe an umbrella I had, sprawled next to my briefcase, I began to reflect. I gather it had fallen onto the floor and was perceived as a fashionable scarf.

"What a lovely scarf! Where did you get that?"

I was really taken aback. It had been a gift from a visiting uncle from Florida, and my mom had given it to me some twenty years back.

As I looked at the intent gaze, I had to correct the lady and say that it was an umbrella and not a scarf. I felt a little awkward, and I wished it had been a scarf, so that I could avoid how I was feeling.

A pattern I noticed later was that the people were giving me this air that they missed these items in their life, and some of the comments were less than complimentary.

I also found their queries had to do with people who were a little bit more curious than they should be about how I acquired the purchases. Once at a library, people started to ask me if I was going to a party when I was wearing items from the casuals sales rack. I started to "dress" down in casual overalls and carpenter pants just to get rid of paparazzis who always thought I was going out. I also noticed these people would wear drab and uninteresting pieces at the public library, and they all looked homeless to me. I wondered if that was the latest trend, to look homeless.

So, when I was told by my supervisor, that I looked "too good" and "cute" in the overalls, even, I thought that was the last straw. I think they thought I was showing off my clothes.

(BTW, when I bought the overalls at JC Penney's, the clerk had dissuaded me from buying them by saying they wouldn't fit me. They fit me perfectly! :) I knew my body type and size, which was a plus. I'm glad I didn't listen to her. I think she was a new immigrant who hadn't yet figured out that under loose clothing, Asian women can fit form - fitting and petite clothing, too. We have the best of both worlds. :)

I began to formulate from random comments that they thought I had acquired the items through a certain person or entity that I was not altogether aware of.

Recently, I have been aware of a new group of consumers who seem to envy what you have and are not really happy that you have the item. This is with everything. A dress I have had for years, or even something that I don't even remember where I purchased seems to cause the greatest commotion.

Their comments have to do with wanting to duplicate everything I own. It is a little frightening, if not flattering. I suppose it depends on the person and the context in which I am approached.

It is not they are poor, or do not have the means to purchase items I own. It is merely that they are sharing with me that their chances have not been the same as mine. If I could only tell them that my chances have been too few and sparse as nearly as any other person's, but it would take an entire history text of my life to explain this fact.

I took these events lightly, but now that their envy is causing them to act in strange manner around me, I am beginning to be a little wary. Some of these people's eyes are seething with rage and greed over some items I possess.

I hope the pattern will revert back to encounters that had to do with compliments and not simply make me feel cautious about life and people in general again.

I suppose it has to do with the economic grind that everyone around me seems to be facing and the shortage of seeing things in print or images around them.

I realize now that most of the items I own are things that have been with me forever. When I was younger, I never went shopping. I was so much of a homebody, that my parents had to ask me to move out. :)

So, when I finally did leave, I felt the euphoric exuberance that all women felt when they first entered a store. No more hand me downs from aunts and uncles. Of course, I still will receive an occasional blouse or skirt on a birthday from my parents, but most of the things I have are from my experiences I had shopping over fifteen years ago. I actually reveled in the experience of actually purchasing something for the first time for myself.

I have simply not been wearing the items or not going out for a number of reasons.

I had been suffering from bouts of insomnia off and on for a great number of years from people who wouldn't let me sleep all night long. As a result, I haven't been able to go out during the day to acquire any new clothing. A lot of the items I have are random things I bought for work or for personal wear to weddings and other events.

At the time, I had also been reading fashion magazines and had friends who also loved reading and flipping through pages with me. We would get together for discussions on late afternoons and evenings. These magazines were anything from "W" and "Bazaar" and even "Vogue." I always looked at various samples. I saved them and reread them also. I loved how the photographers and models all modeled the items, and I began to form a mental tablet of things with which I identified or liked. I compared and contrasted my tastes with my friends or with those on television.

I looked at some fashion worn by famous celebrities and politicians' wives. I looked at old film books and old fashion catalogs.

Unaware of all this reading's effect on my likes and dislikes, I started to buy things on a whim. I didn't go to buy every item I saw, but sometimes, I would buy something that reminded me of something I had seen or read. I also like browsing, popping in and out of stores. Once, I walked into a Suburban store, and I saw a lot of items reminiscent of Oleg Cassini. I thought that was splendid and went back to the store whenever my trips afforded me the time.

To clear up the mystery to even myself, I think my good taste was shaped by reading magazines over time, and friends who had good taste (from the past) also shared and shaped my tastes.

It is difficult to tell people that no someone didn't purchase that for me, and I didn't buy it to make other people think I am wealthy or anything. I bought the items, because they appealed to me in some way. If I like someone, I fit it in my budget. It really has to grab at me and can't be a passing fancy or a whim. Once in a while (if really awake), I can reward myself with a purchase.

I am also very practical when it comes to be a consumer. Once I bought a Kenneth Cole item that was marked down from $500 to just about $40. It was good timing, and I actually did need the item as I was starting a new job, and I wanted something that looked professional at the time.

Another time, I decided to walk into Value City, and I saw items I needed for work. They were all marked down to about $10 or $12. I bought them not for the price, but that the design and fabric on those items were incredible. The prices were, of course, good timing. People never got over those skirts, either. I had no idea, but when I walked into my room at work, everyone wanted to finger the texture of the fabric, even small children who were trying to figure out the concept of how fabric shifted with movement and how colors (shadows) played just when the light hit it the skirt.

It was like magic to their eyes. I still have heads turn when I wear that item, too.

So, there is no real mystery of how certain consumers shop, really.

You just have to know yourself, what you like, and surround yourself with friends with good taste that will eventually rub off on you.

And your shopping habits will follow, I promise!

This month, I urge readers to procure a copy of some of the September Issues out there. Stay home and peruse the pages.

Go browsing and view offerings when not reading.

You don't know what you are missing!

Fashion Event - - - August 13, 2010

This summer is a wonderful time to connect and network with friends with like interests. A friend who loves fashion events forwarded me an email about this
event.

As usual with any event, various people who view these events on the net frequent these events. I did read some reviews where events were attended by all different types of people, and some people were not "your cup of tea."

So as a cautionary note, and in the interests of all fashion lovers, please do attend with a friend, or acquaint yourself with professionals and not just someone attending who is not interested in the arena of fashion.

Please also read reviews on past events so you do prepare yourself in advance. Young people who are new to social networking and may need some amount of chaperoning need to research events before attending them also.

People who attend can either break or make an event. So, establish a solid social base when attending events. See if it is your speed or not, and then attend.

Stay away from opportunists and lechers, obviously! :)

Here are some examples of some reviews on past events:

Keep in mind that this may not be everyone's experience, but when people do share opinions, one can eventually reach a decision as to if it is the right event for you.

Summer Accessories

The beauty of the summer is that in the temperate weather, shoppers and consumers of all backgrounds can find just the peculiar object, whether it be clothing or other object, to purchase. The hectic nature of shopping may beckon you to make bulk purchases, but the real joy of shopping is in finding just the one thing that completes an outfit or your home.

I was shopping at a grocery store when I spotted a young female wearing a headband that was simply adorable. At first gaze, you might have been grabbed by the outfit or handbag or makeup or anything the person might have been wearing, but when I asked about the hair accessory, it seemed like we had that relationship that all consumers attain when pinpointing what you like. It was obvious that she had taken care to purchase it and matched it to perfection with her wardrobe.

It reminded me that sometimes it is not just mindlessly spending money or showing ownership of a particular product or item that may motivate shoppers. It is the choice or variety that abounds at a particular venue. Then it is the actual honing in and selection of the choices that most matter to you.

I don't mean to say run out and buy something you have seen on someone else, or because you think it would look nice on you. The whole point is to be aware of your tastes and fit them into your life accordingly. I liked that shopper's tastes, and we both were entranced by the bright red hues of the strawberries and bought those, but we made a connection based on sheer good taste.

I may never see the shopper again, but I understand myself as a consumer more and more each day because of subtle things like that. I will probably never even purchase the same head band or even a head band, for that matter, but the template for good taste was being formed right there at that point.

I was once approached by a woman who asked me about a shade I was wearing. It was a simple thing to answer, but I realized she noticed how becoming that color was on me.
It was the smallest of accessories, hardly worth a glance or notice, but it brought out something about me that was noticeable. I actually had purchased it on a whim or by chance, and it called to me from a little bin at the store. I used it sparingly from time to time, and I had even forgotten about it, until I really needed to wear it.

Shopping is a simple pleasure, and summer is the perfect time to find just the accessory to add to your personal wardrobe. If you are lost to the art of finding an accessory, or are otherwise a shopaholic, addicted to buying in bulk, practice going with a friend.

The first time I ever really did step out to shop was with a friend, we talked and walked together, browsing everything. When we finally left, all we purchased was one item that was the start of a trend, a new rave that was about to catch on. She let me hold the bag with the mere wisp of tissue and the item hardly weighed more than even a weather, but the fact that we knew we made a solid purchase never really did leave us.

Years later, I remember the item was taken, but I didn't obsess over it, because it was a preserved memory of a time when I really learned to look, listen, and experience shopping for what felt like shopping and not simply a duty or chore to endure in the race to obtain things we don't really value or with which we don't identify.

Before summer vanishes, try just this method. Either choose a friend or go solo. Browse and see what really catches your eyes. Practice solid or practical consumerism. Find out what appeals to you and then go with it. Don't get waylaid by
the fact that you have to keep up with someone or something, or choose something based on its price or prestige it may bring you at work or in your area.

Choose something because it is you.

When you do this, you start to set standards of good taste around you and for yourself as well. A friend from way back used to call this a sense of style, but I believe it is more than that.

Shoppers do create a culture around them. People can forget this in the daily grind of competitive shopping, and then we all lose what is essential to our well - being and necessary for survival as a culture.

Chicago does have the potential to be as regal as New York, Paris, and other major cities around the world. I encourage you as a fashion consumer and fashion - conscious person to take hold of your particular reins in this venture and uphold good fashion sense in our city. This will of course be very random, but if everyone does their part, then we will wear the beauty there is of our city on our person today.

I recommend something that has always been with you. Reward yourself with something you like or need for the time being. A watch, a scarf for an outfit, or even a pen that you need..a purse or even a shade you like?

I am merely thinking of hair accessories, because that is what I seem to be attracted to today, but that may change in the next month. Or browse through magazines like "In Style" or "Vanity Fair." Those models and ads of business are there not just to be models or celebrities, but to showcase some of the accessories created by artisans from all over the world.

The art of consumerism calls one to become a part of a renaissance in our city.

Let this summer be the start.

Copenhagen

Internationally!

The summer may keep you distracted by its many festivals, activities, and events, but if you're anything like me, you want to maintain a vested interested in fashion and look around to see what is going on globally as well as locally.

The Copenhagen Fashion Festival
is one to keep your eye on from afar.

http://www.copenhagenfashionfestival.com/

This city's allure continues on in travel articles, stories, lore and legend, introduced to us by its greatest writers. Internet photos and articles abound about fashion from this region, and I know that I rarely meet anyone from there, but I am nonetheless amazed by Copenhagen and the citizen's stories.

Who hasn't cried when the Little Mermaid's body was stolen several times and then returned, because the thieves finally obtained a conscience?!

You can also continue to visit the blogs that fascinate you and keep you abreast of the latest fashion news from around the world.

http://www.swide.com/luxury-magazine

If you browse for a bit longer, you will find noted blogger, Liberty London Girl, already featured here before, and many, many amazing fashion reviewers. Liberty London Girl just endured the worst crisis ever, but she refuses to let the distraction affect her fashion coverage. Those who have some mainstay and the kind of coveted interest in the fashion world really invite our watching.

Chicago

The "Taste of Chicago" has already started and gives you an excuse to visit downtown and view the seasonal fashion apparel in the stores. If you haven't yet walked through the stores, summer will be a wonderful respite. If you are the person who is already looking toward Fall 2010, you will enjoy both offerings, because the stores are gearing up for everything Fall.

I find that visiting with tourists and strangers about is an excellent venture, because you get the visitor's eye of the Fashion World. One year, my colleague(s) and I, as we only have our schedules timed by chance these days, found what appealed to the other was radically different from our own. While I focused on the live modeling from the Ford Model's (male) fashion team, my friend(s) lingered on aspects of the store designs and history. We were also able to collect excellent contacts at Ford for fashion modeling for my friend, an aspiring actor and model.

The changing store names became a matter of time and necessitated historical footage of the past to share with others still back at home. Furniture colors, shape and design, too, became an obsession. Seeing everything from a tourist's and consumer's eye somehow made everything seem original again for the first time. The Sears Tower that I had known existed here for years, was a looming tower of wonder. (Now, that it is Willis Tower, it will invite even more happy returns. :)

One night, another fashion colleague and I met models from around the world. We were able to be photographed with them. I was petite, standing next to one model from China, but that experience taught me people still want photographs anyway. Another year, going solo, I met a model that was showcasing hair accessories from a designer in Paris. I was able to keep in touch with her, as she knew how to model even the smallest design so that it added to the outfits that women wore. The hair style she had on complemented the accessory to a perfect match. I asked if she was a professional model, and when she answered no, I referred her to agencies in the event she ever wanted to photograph on page as well as live. Of course, I have a souvenir from the event that I normally would not have bought, had I not seen her model it. The accessory complements a gift from a relative in Florida. It is the exact tint and flower that is on my dress from Florida stores.

Becoming a fashion reviewer and consumer enables one to connect with people at an earnest level. Knowing what they like or do not like, and knowing what looks good on one, keeps you invested and alert as a shopper. Your tastes become sharpened as you compare, match, contrast, or dismiss. This process of election and browsing isn't a skill women take for granted, but it is easy to forget what is the true motivation behind an interest in a particular product. I also believe this helps when someone demonstrates or discusses a product to you. You can actually discriminate the "sale" from the "interest" and then determine how your interests coincide with the purchases or not, for that matter.

When you visit the city, travel with a Chicagoan, if you can. It is more than fun. If you're from another part, make sure you do meet some Chicagoans. In the summer, I meet Southerners in general, and they love the sunny disposition of our skyscape. I also love shopping with New Yorkers. They have discriminating tastes, and they know just what they want when they visit Chicago. It saves valuable time as their schedules are already full when they arrive.

Internet sites like Metromix or anything on Navy Pier may help also, if you decide to travel solo.

For savvy shopping and tourism, remember to dodge distractions from your shopping experience. These are pesky measures to get you to depart from your schedule and interests. You experience these by trial and error.

One Victoria's Secret's shopper was detained by security one summer. I was just a bystander watching, but I realized that had she been a thief, she wouldn't really have time to become overloaded with bags that weighed her down. I also think store security wouldn't have missed her heavy and weighted gait and packages. So,that was a ruse to get at her newly - attained purchases. She also was an older woman who was a Mom in appearance who seemed harried and tired from shopping to have enough nimbleness to escape with lingerie that wouldn't fit her, even. Those were probably gifts for people. And why three overbearing men for one tiny women?!

Undercover with no uniforms?

That is just one such example of some of the more serious distractions. You just have to have a type of aloofness that keeps you focused. I am not a secret shopper, or paid to be one, but you learn from watching amateur good - fellows and good - fellas.

Shoppers need to be given a warning on these malignant cancers to consumerism.
When in doubt, refer to an avid consumer from New York.

A woman's intuition is the next best thing!

Consumers with clout...etc.

A retired teacher once told me not to be embarrassed to ask for help. If there is someone shady about, ask a nearby officer or other male (in some cases, female) to look out for you as you walk down the street or approach an ATM. She says she is not really up to confronting the thugs, but people usually acknowledge her request. That was excellent advice for lone consumers without friends or friendly sorts around.

Happy Summer Shopping in the Everywhere and stay safe!

Summer's Dazzle

Summer's dazzle is not lost upon an avid consumer. Those of us who venture out in the winter to avoid congestion know that summer consumers hibernate after a fruitful season. More power to these seasonal shoppers! You have to love them or avoid them.

Yesterday, my friend who works in the corporate Chicago sector, gifted me with the monthly magazine, "CS," otherwise known as Chicago Social. We were somewhat religious about reading this magazine years ago, but like every other consumer, we allow ourselves the luxury of finding it unawares, once in a while.
The wonderful thing about this magazine is that it remains a standing icon in the area, and it lends you the wonderful chance of finding the right event to attend and the perfect place to shop. If you haven't read it yet, you will be surprised by what you are missing. The photography, too, is remarkable and is sheer poetry.

Years ago, we attended a social event that we found by chance through a collegiate friend of mine, and we met some CS photographers. Flattered by their presence, we dared not appear to be vying for attention, and this actually worked in that we were eventually asked to present ourselves on camera. The lovely fledgling who photographed us was somewhat new to the scene and had never met my friend, an avid consumer, and somewhat of a local celebrity.

It didn't occur to me to tell her who he was, but I liked that she stood by her convictions that celebrities shouldn't appear congenial at social gatherings. They should be more aloof and removed. That was quite a different approach, one more like mine in my usual haunts, except that I would never expect a local celebrity to behave in their native locales.

As a blogger, you have to be ready for just about anything. It put me on the spot, however, and I decided not to mediate. After all, the objective was to get a decent shot of us and then dismiss us, although she wasn't the host. For some reason, the night didn't flow that way. I almost felt as if we knew her after the whole ordeal had passed. She would definitely fit in as a Secret Service agent at a banquet for the President.

I can tell that CS definitely takes their photography seriously. I wonder what they would do at a Republican Ball. Ask everyone to loosen up, or something?

Here's to CS!

Fashion Tip

Summer ushers in fashion and wardrobe changes for seasonal programming. The other day, the soap stars were all in summer regalia. Wonderful! The colors, the textures, the looks, makeup, everything was perfect. The only thing missing was the blurbs in the magazines as to where everything was purchased.

Even the accessories glowed on camera. I had to will "Dante" not to over -shadow the Spencer girl, so I could see the amazing lingerie item she was wearing. Maybe freeze them long enough with extended dialogue, so that the camera wouldn't fade to black so soon?! That color was: "any girl would kill for that."

Watch your soaps, people!

This is going to be an amazing season for fashion candids. I wonder if the digests will carry any info - wear *on any of these.

Summer Medley of Events and News

Summer Fashion Events

Summer is here full of events for fashionistas and consumers to attend. As I see it, the more replete, the better for all of us who keep up and write about what is happening in our cities.

For the summer, I will try to list a sampling of events as I become aware of them. As a rule, please do use contact information as provided. This is simply to ascertain whether the event is still going to be held. Due to various factors that pertain to major cities, including weather, and other goings - on, we have to be on top of that constantly.

Most events are also on websites, and more details are updated there as the time arrives.

Mostly, I will try to cover Chicago events and some in New York on this page. If it merits your attending, I will seriously consider posting international events as well. If you don't want to wait, however, go to infomat.com or other event locators for events. DailyCandy.com is another one to peruse, if you want spectacular events, sales, and the like.

Social Media:

Facebook and other like sites may also post valuable information for you. For example, Russell James, an amazing photographer, sent us news regarding his fashion shoot just yesterday. I believe Will Byington's page is also another worthy one to follow and simply read as it is chock full of Chicago Scene news.

If you want the news the come to you instead of you following the news, sign up for newsletters and other information from the sites that interest you. I also recommend
the summer news/events sections of various local newspapers. You might also want to go out and have a little fun while going out there and snapping candids..lol. I have a predilection for newsletters, but I think the pages and sites for major magazines also provide good information about what events are about to come to your city and elsewhere.

Not to gloat, but we bloggers as a rule, exhibit a strong penchant for what is going on as well. So, if you are not following another fashionista's blog or a fashion blog, what is stopping you? Male or female, bloggers are phenomenal right now. Their news is timely, catchy, and provides first - hand information about the particular city, consumers there, and a general sense of what is happening in your local city or around the world.

Certain bloggers I follow also follow the world. I have mentioned them before on my blogs. Not all focus on fashion, but you can most always find a fashion-tie-in there. Russell James' Facebook page for example concerns the elements of photo-
graphy, but his fashion shoots definitely appeal to a wide variety of readers. The Victoria Secret Shoot was interesting to read, and I already received e-news on the particular clothing (great colors) being featured in my inbox yesterday.

Besotten by Burberry

Timely News!

The word was more or less out in Spring that Burberry's new make - up line is due out in July. Burberry didn't really need anything additional to add luster or enhance their current image, but this news just drives Burberry fans mad with
anticipation.

Today, as I delved into W's news and notes pages, I became enamored again with the concept of Burberry itself. I had been a novice shopper/consumer when I first breezed through Bloomingdale's in the far out suburbs of Illinois. I was actually directed to the counter by someone who said if I made a shortcut through the store, I would get somewhere faster. As I made a beeline to the store, I was accosted by an enchanting Asian girl, possibly, Korean, who beckoned me to stop and chat with her at the Burberry Brit counter. The shortcut actually led to a lengthy and informational chat.

I was a little shy, because the sophisticated palette of Burberry colors registered to me as: "maybe you're not ready for this style yet." I was still a hesitant consumer and wasn't quite over my ultra - feminine habits for girl - oriented colors, so I felt a little strange perusing products that had a different allure altogether. I loved how the clerk engaged me. I was actually grateful to her for educating me into this new world of possibilities. I had needed some sort of shopping ritual to acquaint me with other possibilities besides pinks, blues, and other sweat-shirt shades I was used to at the time. I was even offered a Burberry bag to make the whole experience count. The perfume became some sort of sacred elixir I was to carry out with me. I also felt that Burberry had ushered me into the threshold of buying at a more sophisticated level. It felt as if I was wholly new and had shed some sort of phase that had lagged with me for years.

All along, unbeknownst to me, I was being observed by a supervisor who had possibly been training the new representatives at the counter. I approached him when I was in the know and acknowledged that I hadn't intended to buy anything, but because I was introduced to the product in a cordial and polite way, I was more than happy to try something new. I also said I liked to browse and contemplate the purchase before I bought it and then pondered whether it was more convenient to buy immediately or at a later point. I felt they had respected that about me as a consumer trying to educate myself about a product. I was handed the tester by hand.

I also learned the counter was new at the store. I believe it was their first day there.

Hours later, as I sailed through a friend's home, with the Burberry products in tow, the whole allure continued on within me. My friend was amazed that I had bought the products and wanted to see them all. I said that normally I never buy anything unless it really grabs at me, and this brand did.

She looked at me in a knowing way and said I had good taste, and that Burberry was her favorite line. She had been researching the ads for years in magazines. She added that she virtually clipped all of Burberry's advertisements and filed them neatly into a folder. As a result, my friend and I started connecting over fashion and fashion consumerism, and the whole trip somehow solidified my friendship with her. The chat on Burberry that day opened up a lot of doors and windows for me. I felt as if the elation I felt would never end as this connection over the subject lasted for years within me and within our friendship. We even started attending fashion shows and browsing at counters together. I had advanced in society, and these experiences had allowed me to debut.

Today, I have pleasant memories of my first Burberry purchase, and doors were always open for me at my friend's house. This may seem a little thing, but in a town where everyone was busy, and no one visited, this friendship forged a passion between two consumers from two different periods in time.

If you like anything and everything Burberry, then look into the news of it.
I am actually now researching the before and after of this new announcement.
It is not to be a sparse make up line, but a reputable one and one worth waiting for. I can't wait to spy at the counter at some secretive location and see what it is all going to be like.

I can't wait!

Fashion Show to View

Rachel Roy:

I've been seeing (& reading!) a lot about Rachel Roy recently.
She's usually right in the central eye or page of virtually every publication lately.

I even saw her featured on one of my favorite's blogger's entries.
(Yes, I read other fashion bloggers!)

I decided to visit Rachel Roy's website.

Although I have been to fashion events in Chicago and have seen plenty of runway & design showcases, attended enough trunk shows to write an entire encyclopedia on fashion, I hadn't yet seen a fashion show on Rachel Roy.

Thanks to the internet to making this possible, first of all.

I was struck remarkably by the collection itself. True, I see enough of Rachel in the media, Rachel, herself sporting her unique designs, but I hadn't yet seen models wearing her line. Not to say Rachel does not fit her designs to the tee, and even her husband agrees that his wife looks like a fashion diva. Great - looking!

This site has been wonderful so far. I feel as if I have been away forever from the internet and the magazines. Oh, the places that workaholism takes you, right?!
Fashion is such an exciting world, but simultaneously, it is a place of refuge for people, especially the consumer. I think we associate this with the designers who give us a chance to experience their creativity first-hand.

Anyway, it was a breath of fresh air to view her sophisticated collection for the fall. The readers of this site will be able to have a chance to look at her designs on her website. Fall is a ways away, but it was good to get a chance to see what is in store for us in the future. I also liked the subdued tones in the line, because in the fall, I do have to tone down a bit to be around in Chicago. I guess it matches the mood of the season.

http://www.rachelroy.com/Rachel-Roy-New-York/110004700,default,sc.html

Also on this site, you will obtain a chance to inspire the designer and her representatives with ideas that you have to benefit others who are facing dire straits at this time.

Thanks for reading!

Don't forget to visit Rachel Roy's site!

Fashion Internship / Opportunity!

Addendum to this today: 5/24/10

From Liberty London Girl: www.libertylondongirl.com

Interested candidates should email me at libertylondongirl@gmail.com with a resumé and a covering letter setting out their relevant experience, interests & skills. I’m not necessarily looking for people who have worked on professional magazines or websites before – I want to give someone interesting a foot in the door. (As regular readers will know, I have been a magazine editor and writer for fourteen years – my website is here www.sashawilkins.com)

From Liberty London Girl's blog: today!

http://www.libertylondongirl.com

Liberty London Girl states:

"I’m looking for an intern to help me with Libertylondongirl.com & with various fashion and journalism related projects this summer.

Based here in New York, ideally they’d be able to commit to around 15 hours a week, with some time spent with me during the working day, and some spent working remotely from home.

The position is best suited to someone who wishes to pursue a career in journalism, with an emphasis on on-line media. They must have excellent written skills, and have a knowledge of fashion, beauty and/or lifestyle trends as research in these areas will be required.

The ideal candidate will be very familiar with, & used to interacting on, social media (Twitter & Facebook), and basic knowledge of blogging software (Wordpress and/or Blogger) is necessary. Familiarity with uploading to Flickr & YouTube wld also be helpful, as would a knowledge of podcasting.

Most importantly, they will be logical, alert, hyper-organized and efficient as there is a lot of precise admin, coding of images and organisation of databases to be done. (Tasks that I perform on a daily basis, but which are currently taking up time which I should spend writing.) A good phone manner is required.

As well as helping with day-to-day work admin, the internship may also involve calling in samples for shoots, accompanying me on appointments to fashion houses and to publicity agencies, to events & launches as necessary, as well as some work errands such as returning samples to fashion houses & agencies. This means a familiarity with NYC is essential.

There will also be an opportunity to contribute by-lined posts to Libertylondongirl.com in the intern’s area of interest, therefore knowledge of some or all of the areas currently covered by Libertylondongirl.com would be helpful but not essential. I will work with the intern to help improve their writing skills.

They must have their own laptop. The position is unpaid, but a weekly MTA card will be covered, along with various other emoluments to be discussed. Ideally I’d like a commitment of four weeks (or more), starting in June at a point tba.

Interested candidates should email me at libertylondongirl@gmail.com with a resumé and a covering letter setting out their relevant experience & skills. I’m not necessarily looking for people who have worked on magazines or websites before – I’m most interested in giving someone interesting an opportunity to learn."

From time to time, sites or other places will be featured with input
on issues that industry professionals handle.

Idea Forums and even a working list of places to visit or connect to people are necessary for industries to thrive.

A vital part of everything we all do is connecting!

Trash - Dressing!

I wandered onto the pages of InStyle.com for fun and leisure. As an avid consumer, I believe I should actually visit my most beloved places and educate myself about what this amazing planet has to offer. The magazine itself motivated me to go online and peruse the site. I read about various celebrities and felt led to investigate products that I may have never considered before. The May issue was so splendid, and I felt like buying everything I was belaboring.

I used the fun tools to redo hairstyles of more famous celebrities... that I haven't even met before. (I felt guilty, like it was some sort of sacrilege.)

So, far my luck has been meeting future stars and rising talent in many fields to come. And here, I was going to change my name to "Only Yesterday."

And so, I began to think of shows and magazines that pointed out stars
or starlets who weren't totally into the style department of the fashion world. People were either gagging themself over Gaga's new outfit or becoming scandalized over Snookie's fashion failings. InStyle actually has a feature where you can vote for the best style, and that is then voted upon statistically. Today, my choice, Scarlett, came in second to Kate Hudson, if I remember correctly.

I am mostly an observer or a listener. I began to rediscover something that I had nearly forgotten in highschool. True, people had a right to their opinions, and since I had a soft-spot for new stars, I didn't want them to attack the girls who dressed poorly. Each person has his or her unique sense of style, and why should I join in this virtual lottery of hurling stones upon Gaga and Snookie for doing the unthinkable --- dressing as they felt like dressing?!

Then I calmed myself down. I knew that people identified with certain types of dressers and fashion, and coming against certain stars did manage to establish something at least to consumers, if not fashion experts. If you are really watching and listening, people are always communicating their fashion needs. They are establishing what they like and do not like.

In fact, we need to know what we do not like in order to figure out what we do like and need in the fashion industry.

So, more power to Lady Gaga and Snookie! Dress how you feel!!!

I am not going to champion you after all and join in against these fashion-bullies of
new starlets or start a facebook page or anything. I am going to ignore the comments and simply listen. You do learn a lot.

I just hope Gaga and Snookie and other stalwart souls muddle through the latest on the trash - dressing phase. Didn't we also rip on Madonna, once, not too long ago?

Creativity reigns, even when people think someone is dressing poorly.

So, fashion writers, don't be disheartened!

One bad dress is another future successful venture, I assure you.

Media Blitz on the Khans!

Lately, whatever publication I pick up seems to be courting the Khans,
which is wonderful, because fashion bloggers can find more material to cover.

I especially enjoyed the short and sweet article in the 2010 Spring/Summer issue of "Town & Country." (Weddings)

Here's another one I found on the web, "The Huffington Post."(2009)
Click on the tabs and arrows to see which celebrities have worn his designs.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/25/naeem-khan-michelle-obama_n_370721.

There were countless other publications, and when the pages fell open, it
was always about Naeem Khan. I guess I have a novel way of figuring out
what I am going to write about next on this blog.

You can also access his site on the internet.

www.naeemkhan.com

Right now, I am going to read about Naeem in the page that fell open yesterday in the "Travel & Leisure" issue. (March 2010)

I am not kidding!

Okay, ciao!

Got Style?

People with a strong sense of style command a presence all their own.
Yes, we look to Coco Chanel, Her Serene Highness, Princess Grace, Jackie O., and even her sister, Lee Radziwill. These people have an ambience and an allure that captivated an entire planet. (Others: Katharine Hepburn, Babe Paley...Vivien Leigh, etc.)

Today, I peruse magazine ads and photography, and the ones that resonate with me, and the people who represent the companies, resonate deeply with the public for a reason. This connection is not always delineated concretely on our spreadsheets, or even in our daily fashion - related investments. You know, however, that this style endures.

For instance, I gravitate toward a certain ad or company, because they have an unmistakable style or mystique that cannot always be described. Have you ever been able to pass over a Cartier ad without stopping to study it? The tiffany ads also speak poetically and candidly. A more recent representative of style is that of Rachel Zoe. Her style definitely emanates in her creations that she offers to the public.

For that reason, I still can't do without my tangible magazine subscriptions.
There is always something new and constant revisits from all our favorites from the past. People such as Ivanka Trump and Martha Stewart all have a sense of style. They have to portray or carry an image, but their sense of style binds them together with the public that they serve.

Today, if you are pondering about developing a sense of style, or even presenting your own, pay a visit to the following site:

http://www.harpersbazaar.com (Hearst)

Online is a chance for you to present your style and share it with people around you. This is an investment of your time and interests that may not disappoint. Click on the contest guidelines and participate.

If you are a photographer, you may want to read April's issue of "Town & Country," and show your representation of style.

Hearst Corporation is scouting for outstanding photographers for the future.

And yes! The contest is presented in an ad.
